BREAKING: Atiku, ADC Stakeholders Meet in Abuja

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday attended a stakeholders’ meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Abuja. Atiku confirmed the development via a post on X. “I am currently at the stakeholders meeting of the Coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja. It’s a meeting of the Nigerian people against the oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land,” he wrote. Recall that opposition figures, including Atiku, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi jointly adopted the ADC as their new political platform, in July.  Laven Denty Jacob, member representing Pankshin South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, has regained his freedom following his abduction on Monday night. The lawmaker was reportedly taken from his residence in Anguwan Kagji, Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area. Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Kwarpo Sylvanus, confirmed the release to journalists on Wednesday, stating that Jacob had been reunited with his family. “He has been successfully released, but we are yet to ascertain whether any ransom was demanded or paid. All we know is that he was released last night,” Sylvanus said, adding that the lawmaker was hale and hearty.   Angered by the destruction, hundreds of Okpe indigenes staged a peaceful protest on September 23. The demonstration, led by Moses Newcome Odiete, national president of the Okpe Youth Council Worldwide, sent a strong message to government and security agencies. “Okpe will not fold its arms while our people are oppressed,” Odiete said. He accused the Alema of Warri of sponsoring the violence over the disputed Okpe Osobo Forest Reserve, insisting the land belongs to the Okpe people. “The boundary between Okpe and Warri North is clearly the bridge, yet they have crossed into our territory.
